Early Newcastle United captain's memorabilia to go under the hammer

The collection, all linked to former club captain and football pioneer Colin Veitch, will be sold at Anderson & Garland’s Collectors' Auction in Newcastle.

Jack Orgill, auctioneer at Anderson & Garland, said: "It is incredibly rare to see material connected so closely to one of Newcastle United’s most important early captains come to market, particularly with such strong provenance."

Among the highlights is a 1904/05 League Championship 18ct yellow gold chronograph pocket watch, presented to Veitch after the club's first First Division title win and valued at £2,500–£3,500.

Other notable items include a 1906 Football League versus Scottish League winners medal and a life-sized footballer figure commemorating the 1910 FA Cup Final.

Colin Campbell McKechnie Veitch, born in Heaton in 1881, captained Newcastle United during one of the club's most successful eras.

The auction will take place on Thursday, June 4.
