The National League club are working to appoint a new manager following the departure of former boss Rob Elliot earlier this week and they will hope to appoint a successor to the former Newcastle United goalkeeper over the coming week. Former Heed interim manager Clark formed part of Elliot’s coaching staff during the second half of last season as the Heed produced a miraculous escape from relegation into the National League North after being left 11 points from safety on the back of a 15-game run without a win.

Clark has been in discussions over a new deal in recent weeks and an agreement has now been reached that will see the Gateshead fan favourite form part of the coaching setup under a new manager when the Heed players return for pre-season training next month.
Speaking after putting pen-to-paper on what the club described as a ‘long-term deal’ to remain as first-team coach, Clark said: “This club means a lot to me - I can’t wait to embrace the new season. I’ve really enjoyed working with the players and developing them on the training pitch day-to-day, and then seeing the lads’ commitment for the club on match days. Since coming back into the first-team setup, I’ve seen and experienced the feel-good factor around the club and within the community, and I’m excited to be part of that again next season.”
