Aston Villa can get Unai Emery favourite for €40m – Player wants Premier League move

Aston Villa can offer Roma’s Matias Soulé his dream move to the Premier League this summer, with the Italian side needing to raise funds with big sales.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that after missing out on the World Cup, the Argentina forward could now turn his attention to a transfer away from Rome.

Exit from Roma

The newspaper explains that the summer is in the balance for the 23-year-old, with it yet to be seen if he remains at Roma.

There’s doubt on that front for three reasons. The first is that Roma need around €60m in capital gains by June 30th to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

They are also in the hunt for additional wingers, which would potentially push Matias Soulé out of the picture. Lastly, the Argentine as a desire to try a spell abroad, particularly in the Premier League. He likes England the most and is attracted to playing there.

Taking those factors into consideration, it’s clear that Soulé staying in Rome is not set in stone by any means.

After arriving two years ago for €25.6m, he is now valued at €15.3m on the books. An offer of €40m or more would provide a significant capital gain.

Aston Villa’s long-term interest

Aston Villa have had their eye on him for some time. Unai Emery is a big fan and considers the Argentine as natural fit for their system.

Qualification for the Champions League can help their chances too. They can offer top level competition, Premier League football and a ‘high level of trust’ under Emery’s leadership.

The two clubs also have an excellent relationship, shown by the negotiations for Donyell Malen. It means a deal would not be difficult to get over the line should Aston Villa push for it.

For now, Matias Soulé is simply an idea. But the prospect of him leaving Rome is growing and Aston Villa have liked him for a while.
