Newcastle United have RC Strasbourg’s Guéla Doué in their target list for the summer.
Eddie Howe had Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth and Tino Livramento as the three right-backs this season.
Livramento struggled with multiple injuries since last August while Newcastle United have released the other two.
This makes strengthening the right-back position this summer a priority for the Premier League side.
Two months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that both the Magpies and Manchester United are ahead in the battle for Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson.
Encouragement for Newcastle United
The Tyneside club have several names on their list. This includes Guéla Doué, who joined the Ligue 1 side from Stade Rennais in July 2024.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who report the 23-year-old’s name stands out among the Magpies targets.
In fact, the Ivory Coast international is a ‘hot target’ for Newcastle United as he ticks several boxes. His age, ability to both defend and attack and experience of playing in the competitive league make him an attractive option.
Doué has been a regular for RC Strasbourg, playing 65 matches and operating mainly in his preferred role and also as a centre-back. Despite this, the French club are open to parting ways with the player if there’s a convincing offer.
That’s because Strasbourg have to balance their books and the Ivorian’s sale can help them in this regard. The report state they are requesting at least €30m.
The player is also ‘not opposed’ to making a switch to the Premier League as long as he can be part of an important project. He could achieve this at St. James’ Park.
This should give Newcastle United a boost to strengthen the priority position this summer. However, there’s no mention whether Eddie Howe’s side plan to make further advances.
