Crystal Palace receive green light to sign £26m star after completing in-person checks

With Andoni Iraola likely off the table, Crystal Palace have turned their focus towards Dino Toppmoller and securing his first signing of the summer.

Crystal Palace targeting relegated defender

The Eagles have had their managerial ambitions foiled by Liverpool, who are set to swoop in for Iraola and leave Palace scrambling for options.

Those in South London have always had a backup plan, however, and that's Toppmoller. Reports are now indicating that talks have commenced with the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager, who'd be replacing Oliver Glasner for the second time in his career.

Following in the footsteps of a manager who just won a European cup won't exactly be easy, but the fact that Toppmoller has done it before with so much success is certainly a boost.

Once he's there, the new manager is likely to be backed with signings, too. Those at Selhurst Park have already set their sights on a number of potential additions, and that includes a relegated star.

According to TeamTalk, Crystal Palace have received the green light to sign Ladislav Krejci from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £26m this summer.

Krejci-Wolves

Despite suffering relegation, the defender impressed in his debut campaign in the Premier League - enough to earn the interest of Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace fans, should rhe club spend £26m to sign Krejci this summer?

Whilst Wolves are not planning for a future with the centre-back, they will not be accepting a cut price. They paid £26m to make Krejci's loan move permanent this season and now want to make back every penny.

For Toppmoller, it would be a shrewd first acquisition, given that the defender has already experienced the ups and downs of the Premier League.

Krejci could replace Lacroix at Crystal Palace

All the focus may be on the technical area in South London, but Maxence Lacroix's future cannot be ignored. He enjoyed yet another excellent campaign, even after Marc Guehi departed, and he could find himself on the radar of several top clubs as a result in the coming months.

If that proves to be the case, then Krejci could emerge as an underrated option to replace the Frenchman, even if he does not steal the same headlines.

PL 25/26 Krejci Lacroix

Minutes 2,361 3,087

Tackles 32 60

Recoveries 79 94

Duel success 50.2% 61.3%

Pass success 82.5% 88.2%

Alas, the numbers suggest that replacing the Frenchman would be a hefty task. What must be remembered is that Krejci just spent the season in a relegated side, rather than European champions.
