Gordon arrived in Spain on Thursday afternoon before undergoing his medical and putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Nou Camp. The 25-year-old was then officially unveiled as a Barca player on Friday night to bring an end to his three-and-a-half-year spell at St James’ Park.

Gordon joined from Everton for £45million in January 2023 and in his first full season won the club’s Player of the Year award. He made 152 appearances in total and scored 39 times, featuring in two Champions League campaigns as well as helping Newcastle to win its first trophy in 56 years by winning the Carabao Cup.

Gordon was determined to leave St James’ Park on good terms and he has managed to do just that, doing a farewell interview with the club’s in-house media team as well as releasing an emotional 500-word letter to Newcastle on Instagram.

What Anthony Gordon has said about leaving Newcastle United

On leaving Newcastle, Gordon said: "I owe this club a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football. The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. It's allowed me to do what I always thought I could do. It's put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt.

"Since coming to the club, I feel I've improved a lot on the pitch but this club has played a big part in the person I've become over the last three-and-a-half years.

"It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I've loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I'll never forget. I'll be a fan for the rest of my life."
