When EFL will confirm TV picks as Sheffield United wait to learn 2026/27 Championship fixtures

Sheffield United will discover their 2026/27 Championship schedule in less than a month’s time.

With the start of June almost upon us, it will not be long before Sheffield United and their supporters discover their fixture schedule for the 2026/27 campaign.

After finishing an underwhelming 13th in the Championship this term, United will be hoping to launch a promotion push next season in pursuit of a return to the Premier League.

Although a lot of work in this summer’s transfer window is required at Bramall Lane, many United supporters are optimistic the club will make progress next term amid the fact Chris Wilder will oversee pre-season this summer and have a say in United’s recruitment plans.

The boyhood Blade returned to S2 last September, less than three months after being sacked and replaced by Rubén Sellés, and United had the ninth-best record in the division following his return. The top eight will be in with a chance of earning promotion next season amid the introduction of an expanded play-off system.

With the World Cup getting underway in less than a fortnight’s time, this summer is guaranteed to go a lot quicker than a summer without an international tournament, meaning pre-season and the start of next term will be here before we know it.

United, alongside their fellow 23 Championship counterparts, will discover their fixture schedule for next season at 12pm on Thursday, June 25. The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup will be conducted on the same day.

Following the release of the 2026/27 Championship fixtures, Blades supporters, encouragingly, will be notified of the first wave of changes to United’s schedule just a week later, with the English Football League confirming broadcast selections up to, and including, the end of September will be revealed by July 2.

Following relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, United have started each of their last two Championship campaigns in front of the Sky Sports cameras, starting the 2024/25 season away at Preston North End on a Friday night before hosting Bristol City at Bramall Lane in a 5.30pm kick-off on the opening weekend of last season.

In addition to broadcast selections for matches being played before the end of September being revealed prior to the start of the season, United supporters will also be informed of any changes being made to their schedule up to, and including, the weekend of January 8-11 prior to the season getting underway.

Broadcast selections for matches up to, and including, the aforementioned weekend in January will be announced by July 31. The second weekend in January is traditionally reserved for the third round of the FA Cup.

By November 6, the EFL will announce which fixtures have been selected for live broadcast up to, and including, the midweek of March 2-3. By providing up to five months notice of any fixture changes from the original schedule, the EFL has said ‘fans will be able to plan with certainty when making travel and any hotel arrangements.’

Selections for matches scheduled for the weekend of March 5-8 will be announced by February 5, followed by weekly announcements looking four-weeks ahead. TV picks for matches scheduled for the penultimate weekend of the regular season will be announced three weeks in advance.

Selections for matches scheduled for the final weekend of the regular season will be announced the week prior, as per Championship tradition.
