Tino Livramento makes Newcastle United admission amid £60m Man City transfer links

Newcastle United star Tino Livramento is returning to fitness from a thigh injury ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Tino Livramento has thanked Newcastle United fans for their support following a roller-coaster season.

The 23-year-old has suffered another injury-ravaged campaign at St James’ Park. Livramento - who made just 17 Premier League appearances last season - has not played since coming off in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on April 18 with a thigh problem.

Transfer speculation also surrounds Livramento as he stalls on a new contract. Ross Wilson publicly stated one of his first priorities as sporting director would be to tie the England international down.

Tino Livramento transfer situation

However, as it stands, there has been no willingness from Livramento’s camp to extend. He has two years remaining on the initial deal signed when Newcastle stumped up £40million to Southampton.

Manchester City expressed admiration but The Gazette understands his injury record has cooled their interest. Arsenal are another club that have been linked with a potential summer swoop.

Tino Livramento message to Newcastle United

Despite his injury setbacks, Thomas Tuchel has included Livramento in his 26-man squad for the World Cup. He has taken the versatile defender ahead of Lewis Hall - arguably Newcastle’s standout performer last season.

Livramento will link up with another Toon teammate, Dan Burn, as well as the outgoing Anthony Gordon. Addressing Newcastle fans on Instagram, he wrote: “Ups and downs all season but the support never changed. I appreciate every single one of you.”

What Tino Livramento said in December

Livramento stayed coy on his future when asked by NewcastleWorld following the 2-1 win over Manchester City in December. He said: “That's nothing that I'm in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent. For me, I've been out for seven weeks. I've been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team.

“I'm very happy with how I've played (against Man City). That's my focus, staying where I'm at now. That's always been my focus. Helping the team as much as I can.”

Livramento also paid tribute to the Toon faithful when asked if he is happy at St James’ Park. He responded: “Of course, have you not seen it out there?”
