Liverpool is set to open formal talks with Andoni Iraola as the Anfield hierachy moves quickly to appoint a successor to Arne Slot, who was relieved of his duties on Saturday.

Iraola, whose stock has risen significantly after guiding Bournemouth into European competition for the first time, immediately emerged as the leading candidate for the role.

The Reds are understood to be targeting a swift resolution, with the intention of having Iraola installed as head coach before the World Cup gets underway. Discussions are expected to progress rapidly, and there is growing confidence that the managerial search could be concluded pretty quickly.

Slot had expected to lead Liverpool into the final year of his contract and was reportedly taken by surprise when informed that the club had decided to make a managerial change. The decision followed an end-of-season review conducted by Reds bosses.
