The club enjoyed an excellent season despite difficulties in the transfer market.
Unai Emery is hoping for a smoother summer as Villa look to avoid a repeat of the issues which blighted their start to the season.
Villa failed to win any of their first six matches in all competitions, following a difficult transfer window which saw their spending restricted by both the Premier League and Uefa’s financial fair play rules.
They recovered in remarkable fashion to claim a fourth-placed finish and win the Europa League, ending the club’s 30-year wait for a major trophy.
While Villa again face a balancing act as they seek to comply with the regulations, Emery is hopeful they will not experience the same level of uncertainty this time around.
The boss is eager to kick on after finishing his best season yet but is also mindful the club are challenging rivals with the power to spend more.
He said: “We had some troubles at the beginning of the season which, hopefully, this year we are not going to have.
“How we reacted this season, to finish in the top-five, makes sense of our way here.
“If we are frustrated and not getting the balance, it is a problem. Of course, we got the balance, myself and the club.
“But we must also teach our supporters the ambition and if we are not getting there as well, keep balance.”
This is the first summer window since Roberto Olabe replaced Monchi as the club’s president of football operations.
Olabe earned a reputation for spotting some of the best young talent in Europe when sporting director at Real Sociedad and will be tasked with repeating that work at Villa.
Paris Saint-Germain’s teenage winger Ibrahim Mbaye is among the club’s targets, with Emery keen to add pace to his forward line. The manager also wants a midfielder and a defender who can cover the right centre-back and right-back positions.
Villa have already opted not to trigger the £23million option to buy clause for Douglas Luiz, who will return to parent club Juventus.
