Chelsea aiming for West Ham winger amid relegation fire sale

With West Ham United being relegated down to the Championship, it is expected that teams will look to raid their squad for various pieces, which the Hammers may have to let happen in order to meet the certain financial constraints that they’ll be held to.

It appears that there’s one player that several teams are interesting on taking away from the London Stadium, Jarrod Bowen, with a London rival being one of the teams pursuing his signature in the coming transfer window.

The Blues want Bowen's signature

According to the [Independent’s Miguel Delaney](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-jarrod-bowen-transfer-news-west-ham-fee-b2986402.html), [Chelsea](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soccer/chelsea) are interested in acquiring the English winger in the Summer.

“The club have been considering the 29-year-old for some time, especially due to an awareness that they could do with more leadership in the dressing room,” writes Delaney.

The team’s interest in Bowen comes fresh off of a productive season, one in which he would net 11 goals and record 12 assists across his 42 appearances for the Hammers. His numbers in the recent campaign extend his 20+ goal involvement to three seasons, having started it with his 30 involvements in 2023-24.

Given this level of production, it appears that the Hammers could seek a fee as high as £40 million, which is a bit down from where they’d ideally want to sell him for, according to Delaney.

“While West Ham would want about £50m, industry figures believe competing clubs will try and do a deal for £40m,” reports Delaney.

Any move away from the London Stadium would bring a seven-year stint with West Ham to an end for Bowen, one in which he received his first national league call-up, being a part of the England squad that came close to winning the 2024 EUROs, as well as lifting the Europa Conference League in 2023 with the East London-based club.

For Chelsea, if there was to be a move, Bowen would be one of the first signings under new manager Xabi Alonso, who was brought in after what was an underwhelming 10th-place finish at Stamford Bridge, where there won't be any European football for the upcoming campaign.
