Tomáš Souček has been named in Czechia’s final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The West Ham United midfielder is the most-experienced player selected by head coach Miroslav Koubek and management group Zdeněk Grygera, Pavel Nedvěd and Adolf Šádek, with 89 caps.

Souček has scored 17 goals for his country since making his debut in a friendly against Denmark in November 2016.

He started all five ties as Czechia reached the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2020, then captained his national team at UEFA Euro 2024.

The 31-year-old started all eight World Cup qualifiers, and scored his spot-kicks in the penalty shootout victories over Republic of Ireland and Denmark that secured Czechia’s place at their first World Cup since 2006.

After Czechia defeated Kosovo 2-1 in a farewell friendly in Prague on Sunday, the final squad will now travel to North America and play a warm-up game against Guatemala in New Jersey at 1am BST on Friday 5 June.

Czechia have been drawn in Group A at the World Cup. There, they will face South Korea in Guadalajara, Mexico, at 3am BST on Friday 12 June, South Africa in Atlanta at 5pm BST on Thursday 18 June, and Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City at 2am BST on Thursday 25 June.

Souček’s former West Ham teammate and fellow 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League winner Vladimír Coufal, who is now with German club Hoffenheim, has also been named in the final squad.
