When we lifted the Europa League trophy, most of us were still trying to take it all in. The celebrations, the emotions, and the fact that after all these years we were once again winners on the European stage.
Now comes another huge occasion.
We face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in August after the French side were crowned Champions League winners Saturday afternoon.
There was a time when a fixture like this seemed out of reach for Villa fans. But here we are, taking on one of the biggest clubs in world football, with another European trophy up for grabs.
It’s going to be tough. PSG are packed with world-class talent and arrive as champions of Europe. But if there is one thing this Villa side has shown under Emery, it is that we don’t fear anyone.
Whatever happens in the Super Cup, it will be another landmark moment in are recent history.
European trophy winners. Champions League qualifiers. And now a Super Cup final against PSG.
Not bad for a club that some people think we should know our place.
So, Step aside Arsenal. Villa are going to do what you couldn’t. Having already played PSG twice not so long ago in the Champions League, we meet the European champions once again in the Super Cup, and with one game a piece, I back Villa to go up 2-1 in the head to head. UTV
