Gordon officially completed his move to the Camp Nou on Friday evening, undergoing his medical and putting pen to paper on a five-year contract before being unveiled in front of the Spanish media.
The 25-year-old joined Newcastle from Everton for £45million in January 2023 and leaves having scored 39 goals and provided 28 assists in 152 appearances.
“Hello Culers, I’m very happy and proud to be here,” Gordon wrote on Instagram. “It’s a dream come true.
“It’s not everyday you sign for a club like this. I’m going to work very hard and help the team to win many trophies. I know the responsibility it involves to play for Barcalona and I’m very excited and ready for this challenge.
“I’m very excited to meet my teammates and coach and start this new chapter here.
“I want to thank Rafa Yuste and Joan Laporta, Deco and all the people within the club for this opportunity and all the trust they have put into me.
“Also, I want to thank the fans for the love and support, I’m so excited to play for you all.”
Elliot Anderson reacts to Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona
Current and former Newcastle players have been reacting to Gordon’s transfer, and one name that continues to draw the attention of supporters is Anderson.
Gordon and Anderson became best mates during their 18 months at Newcastle before the latter was controversially sold to Nottingham Forest to help the club comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules in June 2024.
The pair’s close friendship has continued at international level, with both players preparing to feature for England at the World Cup.
Responding to Gordon’s post, Anderson wrote “All the best bro. Smash it.”
Anderson could soon join Gordon in completing his own big-money transfer this summer, but sadly,, that won’t be a return to Newcastle, with many expecting the Whitley Bay-born midfielder to join Manchester City.
The 23-year-old has excelled since leaving Newcastle, establishing himself as an integral player for both Forest and England.
