Professional football has become a cutthroat industry over recent seasons, and Liverpool have demonstrated just how brutal it can be after Arne Slot’s dismissal.
Just 12 months ago, the Dutchman claimed Premier League title glory at the first attempt, but now he’s out of a job and the Reds are searching for another new manager.
The fifth-placed finish after spending over £450m on new additions was deemed unacceptable by the hierarchy - ultimately leading to the change in manager.

His departure is the end of yet another era at Anfield as the 47-year-old follows Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson in departing at the end of a dismal 2025/26 campaign.
The sacking will no doubt divide opinion amongst the fanbase. However, the move now presents the perfect opportunity for the next manager to make his own stamp on the talented senior squad.
Liverpool closing in on Iraola & want move for £100m star
Even though Slot’s dismissal was only confirmed on Saturday afternoon, the Liverpool hierarchy have wasted no time in making a move for his successor at Anfield.
Departing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola appears to be the man who will take the reins on Merseyside after holding talks with the Reds in the last couple of days.

The Spaniard is one of the most in-demand managers this summer after leaving the Cherries - subsequently seeing interest from the likes of Crystal Palace, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.
Michael Edwards is said to be leading the move to secure the 43-year-old’s services - unsurprisingly so, given the pair’s time working together at the Vitality.
As a result, it would be no surprise to see the Reds reignite their interest in a move for Cherries talisman Eli Kroupi Junior during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Frenchman has previously appeared on Liverpool’s transfer shortlist after netting 13 league goals during his maiden Premier League campaign.
Huge funds would be needed to secure his signature, as a £100m price tag has been slapped on the 19-year-old’s head - not to mention the interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.
Liverpool already have their own Kroupi
The writing has been on the wall for Slot at Anfield for some time, but Salah’s departing comment about the Dutchman appeared to have swayed the board in cutting ties with the 47-year-old.

The Egyptian demanded a return to “heavy metal attacking” football at Anfield and the need to once again become a team “opponents fear and one that wins trophies.”
Iraola’s Bournemouth side demonstrated such qualities in abundance throughout 2025/26, subsequently claiming victories against the likes of Arsenal and Slot’s Liverpool.
Kroupi has been central to their success in recent months and exceeded all expectations placed upon him after his £10m switch from French outfit Lorient last summer.

The teenager has been clinical in front of goal this term. He’s netted his 13 league goals from just 22 shots on target - a record that saw him score with 59% of his efforts.
Iraola will crave a deal to see the French star follow in his footsteps to Anfield, but the £100m asking price could prove to be a stumbling block in any transfer.

Liverpool’s hierarchy’s shrewd business has already provided the potential new boss with new arrivals, with centre-back Jeremy Jacquet just one star set to arrive on July 1st.
He may operate in a different role to compatriot Kroupi, but he could offer a similar immediate impact in the Premier League to Iraola upon any agreement to replace Slot.
The 20-year-old has agreed a £60m move to Merseyside - a move that emulates that of the Bournemouth star in leaving his boyhood in France to progress his career.
Ibrahima Konate’s pending departure from Anfield will only increase the likelihood of the youngster being a regular starter next term - a task he’s no doubt capable of rising to.
Jacquet has enjoyed a rapid rise in his homeland, featuring in 21 games this season before suffering a shoulder injury - but he’s set to return to action ahead of pre-season.
Limited action hasn’t prevented the youngster from receiving huge praise this term as one French coach has tipped him to become “one of the best in the world.”
Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet
Such hype is undoubtedly justified, as the Frenchman won 76% of his aerial battles and 68% of his ground duels this season - both placing him in the top 10% of all defenders in Europe. In the words of French journalist Julien Laurens, he's a "special talent".
Demonstrating such quality in the Premier League compared to Ligue 1 will be a huge challenge for Jacquet, but who better to make such a quest easier than Iraola?

The Spaniard has demonstrated he can help young French talents adapt, as seen with Kroupi this term, with the fans hoping he can work his magic once again at Anfield.
A period of adaptation will be needed for Iraola and Jacquet on Merseyside, but the aforementioned duo could well play a huge part in any success achieved at Anfield in the years ahead.
