Manchester United are close to securing the signature of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to talkSPORT.
The Red Devils are aiming to reinforce their midfield department as they prepare for Champions League football next season.
Ederson has been on their radar since 2024, and talkSPORT report that he has agreed personal terms over a five-year deal.
Talks are also ‘advanced’ between United and Atalanta, and a deal could be reached for £35 million.
This is notably lower than the previously mentioned £43m figure by Italian outlets.
Ederson would be a fabulous acquisition
The 26-year-old was a top target for the Red Devils in the summer of 2024, but could not convince Atalanta to sell him.
They ended up purchasing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, but the Uruguayan has not met expectations.
The 25-year-old was an unused substitute towards the end of last season, and the club are actively looking to offload him.
With Casemiro set to leave on a free transfer this summer, United will most certainly look to purchase two high-profile midfielders.
Ederson appears the first target, and it could be a matter of time before an agreement is struck, given the player’s clear preference.
The former Salernitana man has ‘paused interest‘ from other elite clubs and is giving ‘priority’ to sealing a summer move to United.
Ederson should be a fabulous acquisition. He completed 89 percent of his passes in Serie A last term with five duels, four recoveries and two tackles per outing.
The Brazilian’s tireless work rate and high pressing are among his other key strengths. He lost possession on fewer than eight occasions per appearance last term.
He would be a decent upgrade on his compatriot Casemiro. United may still want another big-money acquisition from serious competition in the number six slot.
They have reportedly cooled their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, but continued to be frequently linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
