Newcastle United and Chelsea eye in-form striker - seven goals in 12 matches

The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare for a hectic summer transfer window.

Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring the progress of a Danish wonderkid at the Under-17s European Championships - but will face competition from some of the biggest names in world football should they step up their interest.

The Magpies are preparing for a what will be a hectic summer transfer window as they look to move on from a disappointing season and several new arrivals are expected before the 2026/27 season gets underway. Sporting director Ross Wilson is believed to be keen to strengthen at all levels and the Magpies youth ranks are expected to be bolstered after what was a season of progress for the club’s academy setup.

One young prospect that is being monitored is Bodo/Glimt’s 17-year-old striker Mikkel Bro Hansen, who has scored seven goals in his first 12 senior appearances for the Norwegian club and is currently impressing with Denmark at this summer’s Under-17s European Championships. Bro-Hansen found the net in his side’s tournament opener against Montenegro to take his tally at Under-17 international level to 12 goals in just 15 appearances and he will hope to add to his tally when Denmark face Italy on Monday.

Speaking last summer, Bodo/Glimt sporting director Havard Sakariassen hinted at what could lie ahead as he told Catalan outlet AS: “He’s a very young lad and has wonderful talent when it comes to scoring goals. He has the potential to become an international goalscorer. Since joining the first team, he’s adapted to the pace of training spectacularly. I think he has a very bright future. He has a knack for scoring goals. He’s not playing for Barca today, but he’s 16 years old. His performance during first-team training is incredible. That says a lot about his potential.”

Danish outlet Tipsbladet have claimed Catalan giants Barcelona were keen on the young striker last summer - and the La Liga champions are also taking a watching brief as Bro Hansen looks to continue impressing at international level. The same report claims Newcastle, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus and Ajax have also sent scouts to Estonia to watch the young striker in action and there are further suggestions Bro Hansen is ‘high on the list’ of a number of clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
