Sunderland's Angulo in Ecuador's World Cup squad

Sunderland forward Nilson Angulo has been included in Ecuador's World Cup squad.

The 22-year-old, who signed for the Black Cats in the January transfer window from Anderlecht, has 12 international caps to his name but will appear at a World Cup for the first time at the tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo and Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie have also been included and will feature in their second consecutive World Cup.

They are joined in the squad by former West Ham and Everton forward Enner Valencia.

Now 36, Valencia is national team captain and all-time top scorer with 49 goals in 105 appearances will feature in his third World Cup.

There is also a place in the squad for former Brighton defender Pervis Estupinan, now of AC Milan, while Chelsea teenager Kendry Paez, who is on loan at River Plate, has also been selected.

Ecuador, whose best performance at a World Cup was reaching the round of 16 in 2006, are in Group E and start their campaign against Ivory Coast on 15 June.

They then face Curacao on 21 June before concluding their group fixtures with a game against Germany at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 25 June.

Midfielders: Moises Caicedo (Chelsea), Alan Franco (Atletico Mineiro), Kendry Paez (River Plate, on loan from Chelsea), Pedro Vite (UNAM), Jordy Alcivar (Independiente del Valle), Denil Castillo (Midtjylland), Yaimar Medina (Genk).

Forwards: Enner Valencia (Pachuca), Kevin Rodriguez (Union Saint-Gilloise), Jordy Caicedo (Huracan), Nilson Angulo (Sunderland), Anthony Valencia (Antwerp), Jeremy Arevalo (Stuttgart).
