'It could be amazing' - Wolves boss positive about club's future

Wolves will play in the Championship for the first time since 2017/18.

Rob Edwards believes Wolves’ future can be ‘amazing’ as he concentrates on a promotion push next season.

The head coach has come in for some criticism from unhappy supporters as Wolves’ eight-year stay in the Premier League came to an end.

The club and Edwards are determined to fight at the top of tier two next season and when asked about the possibility of a promotion push, Edwards insisted he is eager to help the club get back to where they belong.

“It would be incredible and that was the big reason for it,” he said.

“It's a club that is close to my heart and I really feel passionately about being a part of turning things around.

“There's been a number of seasons now where we've been dropping down and culminating in this.

“I knew coming in, my eyes were wide open, that this was going to be very difficult. I thought I was going to have to take some stick and going to have to stand up to it and stay strong.

“But also knowing that if we can get things right here, it could be amazing and that's what I'm going to try and concentrate on now.”

Despite anger at Wolves’ situation and criticism towards the job Edwards has done, the travelling supporters gave the players and staff a positive reception on the final day at Turf Moor.

Edwards understands the fans’ frustrations and is now keen to rebuild the team and look towards a brighter future.

“I say thank you and I appreciate and understand the frustration, and how challenging it's been for them this season,” Edwards said.

“But I want us to look forward, I want everyone to be able to look forward.

“We've started with the announcement of Andre staying, which I think is great news for the football club, and we really hope there'll be more news in the coming weeks soon.

“We want to do business early, we want to build a fresh-look squad and a team that's going to be good to watch, and will win games of football. We haven't done that enough this year.

“In a challenging year, thank you for your support, now let's all try and look forward.”

He added: “The gap when we came in was massive. No one's ever survived from two points from the position that we were in so it was always going to be really difficult.

“We probably weakened ourselves in January but we've been able to retain a competitive level and with the number of points that we got, maybe we would have been in that mix in a normal season, but we've obviously been cut adrift from the beginning.

“Now it's onwards and we look forward.”
