As the end of the season approached, Vitor Pereira never shied away from the importance of the summer transfer window for Nottingham Forest.
Plans were already being formed and meetings were arranged for after the end of the campaign. Two weeks from today (Monday), the Reds can officially begin doing business again and will have until 11pm on September 1 to get deals done.
Head coach Pereira has been clear about what he would like to see from the window. In his final few press conferences of the 2025/26 term, he talked about ensuring there would be “alignment” throughout the club.

Forest want to keep the core of the squad together. Pereira is of the belief there is a solid foundation in place and only a few additions are required to provide more balance and competition in certain areas.
Retaining their key players is part of the Reds’ strategy, but Pereira has stopped short of guaranteeing Elliot Anderson, in particular, will still be at the City Ground by the time the window closes. If an important player leaves, he must be replaced, is how the Portuguese has put it.
General consensus has it that the die was cast for Pereira’s former club Wolverhampton Wanderers for the season just gone because of what happened last summer. The manager was given too much control of transfers - so the argument goes - top players were sold, poor signings were made and relegation was, ultimately, the result.
It is a different kettle of fish at Forest. Pereira will have his say on ins and outs but his involvement will not be to the same extent as in the West Midlands.

"I think it's important to give my opinion (on transfers),” Pereira said recently when asked his role in transfers. “And that's why I'm talking about meetings that we need to have.”
Global technical director George Syrianos will lead the Reds’ recruitment strategy this summer, according to The Telegraph. He will work alongside head of recruitment Pedro Ferreira.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis will be involved, too. The Greek is said to be prepared to personally oversee negotiations regarding any sale of Anderson, if it comes to that point.

There will be changes behind the scenes Trentside this summer, though. The departure of head of football development Craig Mulholland has already been confirmed and global head of football Edu is expected to follow suit.
