Fresh Newcastle United exits set to be confirmed after £70m Anthony Gordon sale - official…

Newcastle United are set to publish its retained list following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

Newcastle United are set to confirm several first-team departures upon publishing its retained list ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Magpies have already gone public with announcing that Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth will be leaving when their contracts expire at the end of the month.

Goalkeeper John Ruddy has also announced he will be leaving at the end of the month, while left-back Matt Targett, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, is also expected to have his exit confirmed when his contract expires on June 30.

Newcastle will confirm its academy retained list on Monday, prior to announcing its first-team retained list. Alfie Harrison is one of several expected departees set to be announced at Under-21s level.

In addition to the aforementioned first-team players, Newcastle will provide a fresh update on Fabian Schar following positive contract talks. The club are keen to tie Schar down to a new short-term deal with his current contract set to expire on June 30.

On Schar, head coach Eddie Howe said last month: “We want Fabian to stay. I think he's got a lot to offer. I think we've missed him since he's been injured. We've missed his distribution and his passing from deep has been a big miss for us. The way he accelerates our attacks.

“We wouldn't be keeping anyone that we didn't feel could help the team. I think Fabian's been unbelievable for us. Until it's signed, it's not done. But I still feel he has a lot to offer.”

Goalkeeper departure expected

There will also be an update on Mark Gillespie, while fellow goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is set to be confirmed as returning to his parent club Southampton following a season-long loan at Newcastle.

The Magpies have a £20million option to make Ramsdale’s loan permanent, which Howe left the door open to in the final weeks of the season.

Howe told The Gazette: "Let's see what happens in the next stage of his career, we're not in control of what happens with his future, that'll be Southampton's choice but I can only speak really highly of him."
