Rangers player with 'significant' upside wanted by Nottingham Forest, Light Blues face…

The young prospect is also being monitored by Crystal Palace

Rangers player Calum Adamson has attracted Premier League interest from Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace after a successful loan spell as the Light Blues face a challenge to hold onto him.

The 18-year old, who is also being watched by Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Portsmouth, was farmed out to third tier Scottish side Alloa Athletic last season where he enjoyed a successful spell. Adamson scored two goals and assisted three from defensive midfield for the Wasps, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship. He can also play as a box-to-box playmaker.

Should Adamson stay at Ibrox, another loan switch could be in the offing, with Premiership rivals Kilmarnock and St Mirren both reportedly interested. However, with English Premier League clubs holding the cards financially, Gers boss Danny Rohl will have a job on his hands retaining the youngster.

Rangers face ‘difficult’ task to hold onto star

According to TeamTalk: “Rangers are facing an increasingly difficult battle to retain highly-rated midfield prospect Calum Adamson, with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest among several clubs from England now tracking the teenager closely, TEAMtalk can reveal.

“The 18-year-old enjoyed an excellent breakthrough campaign during his loan spell with Alloa Athletic last season, gaining valuable first-team experience and significantly enhancing his reputation north of the border. Sources suggest scouts from both clubs have been regular observers and view the teenager as a player with significant long-term potential.”

Winger Findlay Curtis is proof that the step up from the academy ranks to the first team can be made at Rangers, who’ve also recently secured the long-term future of Ashton Scally and Kyle Glasgow, despite Premier League interest. Adamson has had a few tasters of first team action himself and was named on the bench last season in multiple Europa League matches, including against SC Braga.

Adamson on Rangers dream

Speaking in December, the midfielder outlined his ambitions to one day play for Rangers. He told the club: “The Braga game was a big moment for me. I got the phone call from Stevie Smith on the morning of the game, and he told me I was going to be in the squad. I wasn't sure whether I'd be on the bench or I would just be in the travelling squad, but I turned up and saw my shirt in the dressing room next to Tav’s (James Tavernier’s).

“This is what you dream of, and it was a really good moment for my family and me, but now I want to assert myself and get into the team and out onto the pitch. I’ve had a taste of it now, and it has given me even more ambition to go and play for Rangers. I don’t want to just settle for being on the bench. I want to progress.”
