FSG in talks: 'Superstar' wants to join Liverpool and play for Andoni Iraola, he would love him …

Liverpool are set for a big summer of change after a disappointing season saw the club decide to sack Arne Slot as manager at the weekend.

The briefs out of Liverpool in recent weeks had suggested that club chiefs were willing to stick with Slot next season despite an underwhelming defence of the Premier League title they won in the Dutchman's first season in charge, as they finished fifth.

Slot was faced with some difficult situations too, following the heartbreaking loss of Diogo Jota and club-record signing Alexander Isak struggling to get on the pitch because of injury, but it wasn't enough to save him.

The Reds' hierarchy have acted and now they want to land Andoni Iraola as his replacement, with the Spaniard a free agent after leaving his job at Bournemouth at the end of the season.

Iraola led the Cherries to European football for the first time in their history as they finished one place and three points behind the Merseysiders in the table, going on an 18-match unbeaten run following the departure of Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City in the January transfer window.

The Spaniard plays the 'heavy metal' style of football that the club and supporters are craving, with talks set to advance this week ahead of a potential appointment.

Liverpool In Talks With Agents of Yan Diomande

As well as a big change in the dugout, Liverpool are planning to make changes to their squad in the coming weeks too.

Perhaps it was the right time to change manager at a time when big players in the dressing room like Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate are leaving, with new players needed.

One of the areas the Reds will be looking to strengthen is out on the wings, with Salah's departure leaving them with Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Federicio Chiesa as their three specialised options there.

The likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike can play there too, but the former is more suited to playing as a '10' and the latter could be out until 2027 through injury.

Sport claim that Liverpool are already in talks with the agents of RB Leipzig 'superstar' Yan Diomande over personal terms for a move to Anfield, with the Bundesliga club rating their star forward at €100m (£87m).

The 19-year-old is said to be leaning towards a move where he would be guaranteed first-team football, rather than joining other suitors like Paris Saint-Germain.

Andoni Iraola Would Love Yan Diomande

Diomande is a dangerous attacker who terrorises full-backs and has produced impressive goal contribution numbers in his breakthrough season for Leipzig.

The Ivory Coast international registered 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig during the 2025-26 season, showing the huge future the 19-year-old has in the game.

What is more impressive about Diomande though is that even though he is still a teenager, he is very tactically aware and has shown he is a real team player and a 'highly effective presser', according to Leipzig tactician Ole Werner.

Those traits make him the ideal addition for a manager like Iraola and his style of play, as he likes an intense, all-action style.

Diomande is able to breeze past opponents due to his speed, and he can be the exciting marquee addition Iraola needs in his frontline to make an immediate impact at Anfield.
