Former Burnley promotion winner Arijanet Muric has performed a U-turn to join Italian side Sassuolo on a permanent basis.
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with the Serie A outfit, keeping six clean sheets in 32 games.
Sassuolo had the option to buy Muric at the end of the season for a fee of €7m (around £6m), but the Kosovan appeared to suggest that wouldn’t happen.
In an interview with journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Muric revealed his time with the Italian club was over.
"I'm grateful for this season, but I don't intend to play for Sassuolo next season," he said.
"With the end of my loan, my time here also ends.
"It was a positive year and I enjoyed it, but I have informed the club that I don't want to stay here after this season for personal reasons."
It has, however, been suggested that Muric could still move elsewhere this summer, with Spanish side Valencia reportedly interested.
But he made just 18 appearances and was dropped after some high-profile errors.
Muric played a key role in his debut season at Turf Moor following his £3m move from Manchester City, making 41 Championship appearances as Vincent Kompany’s side romped to the league title.
He was also named in the division’s team of the season.
But upon promotion to the Premier League, James Trafford took his number one spot. While Muric later reclaimed the number one jersey, starting the final 10 games of the 2024/25 Premier League season, he would still depart at the end of the campaign.
