'Early interest' in Manchester City midfielder after Sheffield Wednesday loan

Jaden Heskey was on loan The Owls last season

Jaden Heskey’s performances on loan at Sheffield Wednesday has helped attract early interest in him this summer, says his dad Emile.

The 20-year-old was on loan at Wednesday in the second-half of last season, joining in January from Manchester City, making 20 Championship starts. His dad, former England striker Emile, believes the midfielder has outgrown youth team football now and needs to continue his journey in senior action.

But, understandably, it is going to be extremely tough for him to do that at City, where several world stars stand in his way. It may be that he has to depart in order to continue to make progress.

"There has been early interest in Jaden, and that has come from his time at Sheffield Wednesday,” Emile said. “Starting 19 games in the Championship will bring a certain level of new interest. Granted, Sheffield Wednesday struggled, but Jaden did okay, so it’s been an important period for him."

Manager Pep Guardiola has left City after winning 20 trophies in 10 years. Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is reportedly set to replace him. Unlike lower-league clubs where manager’s make the majority of decisions, City’s vast football structure means that Guardiola’s departure will not affect Jaden’s future, with a decision likely to be taken by academy staff and the loans team.

“Jaden’s future will be determined by what we can do in terms of progressing his first-team football, and I don’t think Pep Guardiola staying or going affects that,” Emile explained. “Jaden did really well going over to Sheffield Wednesday to learn and understand what it means to wake up every day and feel the importance of winning games. Obviously, being in a position where the club was trying to stay in the league was always going to be tough under the circumstances, but it was really important for him to experience those pressures."
