Newcastle United forward Anthony Elanga has been [named](https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/newcastle-united-international-call-ups-summer-2026) in Sweden’s 26-man squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, adding another Newcastle United player to the tournament.
The winger’s selection follows a season in which he remained part of Newcastle’s attacking rotation after joining the club, with his production still falling a bit short of expectations.
Elanga’s pace and direct running give Sweden another wide option as they prepare for a difficult Group F schedule. Sweden reached the tournament through the play-offs, beating Ukraine and Poland to secure their place.
Coached by Graham Potter, Sweden will now prepare for the World Cup with two friendlies before travelling into the group stage. Blagult first face Norway on Monday, June 1, at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. They then host Greece at Friends Arena three days later.
The 1958 World Cup finalists will be looking to make progress from a group that offers a range of different challenges, from Tunisia to the Netherlands and Japan.
Sweden will open their Group F campaign against Tunisia on Sunday, June 14, at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Mexico. Their second match is against the Netherlands six days later at NRG Stadium in Houston.
The Nordic country will close the group stage against Japan on Friday, June 26, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
