Aston Villa will pocket a decent slice of FIFA’s $355million Club Benefits Programme with several players set to feature in this summer’s World Cup.
Villa have three players in England’s squad, Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa, and six others playing for their respective nations, giving the club a decent interest in the scheme.
The tournament will be played out in the United States, Canada and Mexico and FIFA have set aside $355m (£263m) to compensate clubs whose players are involved.
A daily participation figure is still to be confirmed but in Qatar 2022 clubs banked $10,950 (£8,100) for every day one of their players was still in the competition.

The participation period starts from when the player is officially released for duty by his club – usually 10 days prior to the tournament starting – and ends when their country is eliminated from the tournament.
The Villa trio flew out with the England squad today, ten days before the first match on June 11 and ready to face Croatia, Ghana and Panama and hoping to reach the final on July 19.
Based on the $10,950 figure from four years ago, players of nations who reach the final could bank their clubs $536,550 (£399,500), giving Villa a £1m-plus windfall if Thomas Tuchel’s men go all the way.
Villa have other tickets to the jackpot too, with Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans away with Belgium, Emi Martinez with Argentina and Lucas Digne with France. John McGinn is also away with Scotland and Victor Lindelof with Sweden.
However, adding to the uncertainty over how much clubs will be compensated is the introduction of payments for releasing players for qualifiers.
Posting on Instagram last year, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “The enhanced edition of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme (CBP) for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is going a step further by recognising financially the huge contribution that so many clubs and their players around the world make to the staging of both the qualifiers and the final tournament.”
