Former Hull City winger Stephen Hunt has backed Joe Gelhardt to be a success in the Premier League if his move from Leeds United is made permanent this summer.
Gelhardt has notched up 64 appearances, scoring 20 goals and six assists for City over two loan spells from Elland Road.
The forward has played more games for the Tigers than any other club, and is keen to remain at the MKM Stadium and help City's first campaign back in the top flight for a decade, following their play-off final win at Wembley last weekend.
Ex-City star Hunt, who now works in sports management and has John Egan, Matty Jacob and James Furlong amongst his Tigers clientele, believes the Tigers would be well served in striking a deal with their top-flight rivals this summer.
"Joe Gelhardt, I think he's a very, very good player," Hunt told the latest episode of the 1904 Club podcast. "I think he can play in the Premier League. He never really had that opportunity. He had a flash with it with Leeds. I think he's ready to play in the Premier League, and he can be effective. You look at Jarrod Bowen, who's a left-footed right-winger who's scored goals in the Premier League.
"You'd probably end up playing three along the top, 3-4-3 or whatever way you look at it, with two real sitters in midfield, and it gives yourself a chance."
On what City fans can expect in what will be a fascinating summer off the pitch at the MKM Stadium, Hunt feels the club are well-placed to recruit well under the guidance of sporting director Jared Dublin and head of recruitment Martin Hodge.
"I think they're fairly shrewd. Jared (Dublin) has a good understanding of the European market as well as an understanding of the Championship. The level of the Premier League now has gone with so much power and pace that you need to add some ability in your team, I would say, flexibility in players playing along the front line."
