Aston Villa star facing uncertain future following loan deal

Attacker is expected to attract several suitors this summer.

Villa forward Evann Guessand is facing an uncertain future after Crystal Palace opted not to trigger their £28million option to make his loan deal permanent.

The London club could still look to sign the 24-year-old this summer after he spent the second half of the season at Selhurst Park.

But a clause to make the loan agreement permanent is thought to have expired over the weekend and as things stand, Guessand will return to Villa for pre-season.

The Ivory Coast international’s immediate focus is on the World Cup and his future is unlikely to be decided until after the tournament, with Palace potentially among several suitors.

Guessand was Villa’s only big money buy last summer when he joined from Nice in a deal worth £30m.

But he made only six Premier League starts and struggled for consistency, with his two goals both coming in the Europa League.

Guessand joined Palace in January and began well but a knee injury sustained in early April ended any chance of him reaching the eight goal involvements required to automatically trigger the option to buy.

Palace are currently searching for a new manager following Oliver Glasner’s departure, placing any decisions on transfers down their list of priorities.

Guessand made history last month when he became the first player to win two European trophies in the same season.

After making seven appearances for Villa in the Europa League group stages, he made six for Palace in the Conference League knockout rounds including a late substitute appearance in last week’s final win over Rayo Vallecano.
