'An honour' - Winger issues heartfelt farewell message ahead of Newcastle United summer move

Newcastle United transfers: Antonio Cordero has issued a farewell message following his loan spell at Cadiz.

Antonio Cordero has issued a heartfelt farewell message to Cadiz ahead of his Newcastle United return this summer.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at the Spanish second-tier side after being recalled from a frustrating loan spell at Westerlo in Belgium.

Cordero joined Newcastle on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Malaga last summer.

NUFC loan U-turn

After limited first-team opportunities at Westerlo, the Spain Under-19 international returned to his home country at his former youth side Cadiz.

Cadiz sat sixth in the table with play-off hopes when Cordero made his debut back in January. But a run of two wins and 14 defeats in 18 games saw the side plunged into a relegation battle come the back end of the season.

But in Cordero stood up in Cadiz’s time of need with a crucial brace in a 2-2 draw with relegated Cultural Leonesa. He then scored in a 3-0 win over Leganes a few weeks later as Cadiz confirmed survival with a game to spare.

Farewell message

Now his loan spell in Spain is officially over, Cordero took to Instagram to issue a farewell message to Cadiz.

It is an honour to defend this shield and share so many moments with you. Cadiz will always have a place in my heart.”

Cordero will be assessed upon his return to Newcastle and given an opportunity to impress over the summer, with another loan move possible.
