Aston Villa will feature prominently in the transfer rumour mill this summer as Unai Emery plots a path through next term’s Champions and Premier League campaigns.
Villa are expected to add quality and depth to a squad that finished fourth and won the Europa League last season.
Here’s a round-up of today’s stories.
Same again
Speculation about Emi Martinez’s future rumbled right the way through last summer – and the Argentine even referred to claims he would leave for Manchester United during the club’s open-top bus parade a couple of weeks ago insisting they were ‘wrong’.
The 33-year-old looks to be in a similar situation in this transfer window too with Sky Sports Italy saying Juventus are interested in signing either him or Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario.
The report claims Juve really want Alisson but Liverpool aren’t countenancing the Brazilian’s departure. It adds that Martinez has ‘the right personality’ Juve want.
Similarly Corriere dello Sport, via calciomercato, claim Internazionale are also interested and that ‘some discussions have already taken place between the Nerazzurri and Aston Villa’.
Martinez, who is currently at the World Cup with Argentina, remains under contract at Villa until the summer of 2029.

Rowe back
Villa have been linked with former Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe for a while now and the rumour won’t go away.
Indeed, on Monday Italian outlet il Resto del Carlino reported: ‘Chelsea and Aston Villa are pressing for Rowe’.
The 23-year-old is currently at Bologna and the report cites the fact the Serie A club will need to raise funds having missed out on European football next season and says ‘Bologna will consider offers’.
Rowe came through the Canaries academy before being loaned to Marseille with an obligation to buy last summer.
However, within a few months he was sold to Bologna for whom he has played 43 games – predominantly as a left winger – and scored eight times, including against Villa in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Roma link
Website insidefutbol cite Il Messaggero in claiming Villa ‘remain keen’ on Roma winger Matias Soule.
It is claimed Roma want a minimum fee of €40m and that Borussia Dortmund are also interested in a player who moved to the Italian capital from Juve in 2024.
Since then the Argentine has scored 12 times and added 13 assists in 81 games, including 42 this term as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side finished finished third to qualify for the Champions League next term.
Soule is an attacking midfielder who has three years left on his current deal.
Rising star
Villa ‘admire’ Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, according to The Athletic.
The Italian-born 21-year-old joined the Hannover 96 youth set-up and went on to score 14 times in 80 appearances with the 2. Bundesliga club.
Last summer that earned him a move to Belgium, on a deal which runs until 2029, and in his first season in the Belgian top-flight he bagged 23 goals in all competitions. Those included strikes against Barcelona, Monaco and Atletico in the Champions League group phase.
Tresoldi, who has played age group football for Germany, came close to being called up to the full national team for the World Cup.
Julian Nagelsmann said: "Nicolò Tresoldi was very, very close to making the squad. He's not a classic target man, but he's a classic striker."
