‘Birmingham is no longer home’ – Aston Villa star wants new adventure, agent meeting ahead

Last summer, Emi Martinez appeared close to leaving Aston Villa. After Manchester United ended up with Senne Lammens, he stayed in Birmingham but an exit this summer can’t be ruled out.

Last week, Sport Witness covered Juventus’ interest in the Argentine. His entourage has offered the keeper to the Old Lady many times, with Inter Milan previously in the mix.

Aston Villa’s demand was said to be €20m, which wasn’t seen as massive by Juve.

Considerations were ongoing in Turin about a deal, with Michele Di Gregorio on his way out of the club.

Now, Juve are trying to get serious about the veteran and will have a formal meeting soon.

Agent set for discussions

Today’s TuttoSport reports ‘mutual flirtations’ have been ongoing between the two parties. They have been in constant contact, which has given hope to Juve for a possible deal.

It is believed Martinez wants to finally depart Aston Villa too. The newspaper are certain ‘Birmingham is no longer his home’ and the player is seeking an exit for fresh motivation.

Juve are aware of that and have scheduled a meeting with his agent Gustavo Goni. This will take place in the next few days and Juve will assess the financials of a move.

The 33-year-old’s wage demands stand at €7m per season. While that is a problem, Juve can hand him a four-year deal that spreads out these expenses.

If an agreement is reached over personal terms, the Italian side will then speak to Aston Villa. Attempts will be made to pay less than €20m, especially if Martinez doesn’t reduce his wage demands.

The Bianconeri don’t want to get stuck in a tug-of-war. That’s why they’re trying to speak to Goni as soon as possible and then take action.

Juventus failed to qualify for the Champions League when Aston Villa will play in the competition for the second time in three years. They also offer more promise for silverware right now, with Juve going through a period of instability.

This will impact their ability to spend, especially as other viable options exist in the market. Someone like Guglielmo Vicario is younger and commands a lower wage.
