Lois Openda is likely to struggle to find a new club and Juventus want Coventry City to step forward for him.
The striker had a troublesome 2025/26 campaign in Turin. He joined on a loan, with a conditional obligation to buy if Juve finished in the top ten.
That happened, as was always likely, forcing the Old Lady to spend €40m for him despite poor performances. He scored just one Serie A goal, featuring for less than 700 minutes in the league.
He fell out of favour specifically under Luciano Spalletti, leading to Sport Witness covering interest from Leeds United. While the Whites haven’t made a concrete approach, Coventry City remain in the mix for the Belgian.
Juve desperate for Openda’s exit
Today’s TuttoSport looks at possible outgoings from Turin, with Juve keen on giving Spalletti the squad he needs.
The Italian doesn’t see Openda as part of his squad for next season. This aligns with Juve’s own stance but they are aware that his issue won’t be solved right away.
It is a sign that a permanent exit for the 26-year-old is very difficult. Juve are, as a result, hoping that Coventry City step forward for his signature. They are open to a loan with a conditional obligation to buy, just so they free up space in the squad for next season.
There is also interest from Lens and Rennes but none of them have stepped forward yet.
They – like Coventry City, have made initial contact. This is giving Juve optimism that something can work out later in the summer.
Loan would make sense
Considering Openda’s season, there is no reason for Coventry City to commit to a permanent deal. In this case, Juve’s stance is quite helpful as they understand the limitations of the situation.
During his time at RB Leipzig, Openda was a reliable goalscorer. A loan with an option to buy looks possible and a way of proceeding with the transfer.
Even if he hits the ten-goal mark in England, his stock would again rise. This will allow Coventry City to execute a permanent deal and the striker is still at a pretty good age.
