The World Cup winner has been linked with a move away.
Villa are waiting for an approach from Juventus for goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
The Argentina international’s future is the subject of speculation for the second straight summer.
Reports in Italy have claimed an agreement between Martinez and Juventus over a contract is already in place.
But that means nothing unless Juventus follow it up with a bid which matches Villa’s valuation of their No.1
Martinez was in a similar position 12 months ago when he was widely expected to leave but ended up staying put as his main suitors, Manchester United, only wanted to take him on loan.
Villa are not actively looking to sell the 33-year-old but have been scouting other goalkeepers in case they need to move into the market.
Manchester City back-up James Trafford is thought to be high on their list, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier is another keeper they have looked at in the past.
Martinez is currently away at the World Cup, where he is aiming to help Argentina defend their title.
The keeper hopes to be recovered from the broken finger he sustained before last month’s Europa League final in time for their tournament opener against Algeria next Tuesday.
