Liverpool and Manchester United are competing for Juventus’ Khephren Thuram, who could be sold this summer.
The Reds’ Curtis Jones can end up at Inter Milan. Sport Witness have covered how the Italian champions are trying to pressurise them into reducing their asking price. The two clubs have met regarding his sale but no agreement was reached.
At the same time, Inter are optimistic that some progress could be made. There is only a €10m gap between the parties, which can be bridged if Inter make a sale.
Now, Liverpool have identified a replacement but can face competition from Manchester United.
Thuram’s price tag clear
TuttoJuve’s Mirko Di Natale reports about Thuram, who missed out on a call-up to the French national team for the World Cup. With Juve having failed to qualify for the Champions League, his future is in the air.
While Galatasaray have enquired about him, Thuram’s future can lie in England.
Liverpool see him as a replacement for Jones. Manchester United are also monitoring the Frenchman, even if they are set to sign Ederson from Atalanta. They remain keen on another midfielder, with Thuram being monitored alongside Elliot Anderson.
Juve’s valuation is also clear. They demand around €45m to €50m to sell him and this can hand them a capital gain when they really need it.
This isn’t the first time England has emerged as a destination for Thuram. Aston Villa were previously interested and they have a good relationship with his entourage as well.
Juve could prefer England sale
As things stand, Thuram’s valuation should be out of reach for Italian clubs. He has grown a fair bit, becoming one of the best midfielders in Serie A.
His work-rate and pro-active approach makes him a very good fit for English football. Mainly a number eight, he can slot in easily at number six too. His best comes when he carries the ball forward, which is very similar to Curtis Jones’ profile.
The Englishman played regularly towards the end of last season. He was offering significant value but Thuram could be an upgrade.
As for Manchester United, they need someone who can operate deeper regularly. Thuram is closer to Ederson in that sense and moving to Old Trafford would make little sense.
