Bradley Barcola expected to leave PSG as Liverpool target’s contract talks stall

Liverpool target Bradley Barcola is now expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer with no progress in his contract talks and the club open to a sale.

Barcola is among the players considered by Liverpool as they look to add at least one starting winger to Andoni Iraola‘s squad this summer.

While the focus has largely been on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, the uncertainty around the France international will not have been ignored.

According to L’Equipe, there is a growing feeling that PSG could allow Barcola to leave this summer as he enters the final two years of his contract.

Talks over an extension have stalled, and though Luis Enrique wishes to keep the 23-year-old, the club are “not entirely opposed to a sale” as they have “never made a habit of keeping” players in his situation.

When could Bradley Barcola leave PSG and how much would he cost?

Barcola’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, met with sporting director Luis Campos last week and further discussions are likely to determine his future.

It is explained that no progress is expected until after the World Cup and that “all the conditions for a departure will have to be right, which isn’t the case at the moment.”

That could indicate that PSG would first need to replace Barcola, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche among their targets and confirming his plans to leave in an interview this week.

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville has also emerged as a potential signing, while PSG have long been considered Liverpool’s rivals for Diomande’s signature.

There is no suggestion of a price tag for Barcola at this stage but despite his contract only running to 2028 any sale would likely require a significant fee.

Arsenal are among the Frenchman’s other suitors and there is clearly no guarantee he would opt for a move to Liverpool.

Where would Bradley Barcola fit in at Liverpool?

Barcola is a natural left winger but has also played on the right and even up front for PSG and former club Lyon, and last season he scored 13 goals and laid on seven assists in 49 games.

If he were to join Liverpool there is an argument that he would block Rio Ngumoha‘s pathway, with the 17-year-old set to challenge for a starting spot under Iraola.

But with Mohamed Salah already departed, Hugo Ekitike long-term injured and Cody Gakpo struggling as first choice last season, there is cause to argue that the minutes could still be shared between Ngumoha, Barcola and Diomande.

It must be remembered too that Ngumoha will only turn 18 in August and will still need to be managed carefully as his body develops.

France are considered favourites at the World Cup and will begin their tournament with a Group I opener against Senegal on Tuesday night.
