Aston Villa star sending clear transfer signals – Club want to pay a ‘minimal fee’ at best

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has already signalled to Juventus that he is willing to lower his wages to make a move happen this summer.

Calciomercato report on the goalkeeper today and impending negotiations between Aston Villa and Juventus for the 33-year-old goalkeeper.

Juventus off

The website explains that while Emiliano Martinez is focusing on the World Cup with holders Argentina, he’s already been doing transfer work. He has signalled to Juventus that he is open to a salary reduction to make the move happen.

He has greed to a salary reduction from the €9m he currently earns in England. That’s opened the door for Juventus to make their move.

They are planning further contact with Aston Villa in the coming days in the hope of reaching an agreement.

In the meantime, Martinez’s entourage are making it clear that he wants the move. At 33-years-old, he’s 34 in September, he sees the move as the final important step of his career.

Juventus are already close to reaching a definitive agreement with the player, but they still need the agreement with Aston Villa. The Italian side would like to sign Martinez on a free or for a ‘minimal fee’. It remains to be seen if Aston Villa will accept that.

€12m valuation currently

Martinez is currently valued at €12m and has three years left on his deal at Villa Park. They have no reason to sanction a cheap sale, other than the Argentine pushing an exit.

Even then, Unai Emery’s side would presumably want a fee that will help them when it comes to securing a replacement.

Reports have already linked them with a move Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin. The Portuguese side won’t accept any deal for him under €20m.

So, Juventus may be in wishful thinking mode over their plans. But Martinez’s willingness to reduce his wages does make matters slightly easier.
