Galliani happy for Abate and Torino: “He’s the right man for them”

The former AC Milan player Ignazio Abate has been appointed as the new manager of Torino, and it’s a decision that Adriano Galliani has praised.

After a strong season with Juve Stabia in Serie B, reaching the promotion play-offs, Abate attracted the interest of several clubs. Torino was one of them and on Friday evening, they announced that they had appointed the 39-year-old as their new head coach.

It will be his first coaching adventure in the top tier, having gone from Milan’s Primavera to Ternana and then Juve Stabia. A pretty quick rise to the top, but the results and performances speak for themselves.

Galliani’s stamp of approval

The former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani was asked about Torino’s decision to hire Abate in an interview with Corriere di Torino (via MilanNews). He praised the manager and Urbano Cairo, believing that Il Toro will finish in the top half next season.

“Ignazio has great human qualities. He’s the right man for the Granata. It’s clear and evident that my friend Urbano Cairo, whom I’ve known for over forty years, has a wealth of experience. If he chose Abate, it’s because he believes he’s the right profile for Torino’s new direction.

“Abate is the right man to lead Torino firmly into the top half of the league table. I first met him at Milan when he was just 13. Then he went away on loan, also to Torino, before being bought out and staying ten years with the Rossoneri.

“We never wanted to lose him. Even after the loans to Napoli and Empoli, I insisted on his return,” he stated.
