Fiorentina eye a move for Tottenham LB; Spurs want €50m.
There is something almost affectionate about Fiorentina’s pursuit of Destiny Udogie. The Italian club’s director of football is Fabio Paratici, formerly of Tottenham, and the man who signed Udogie from Udinese in the summer of 2022. Paratici identified Udogie as a teenager, facilitated his move to North London, defended him when his early performances drew criticism, and watched him develop into one of the Premier League’s most dynamic attacking left-backs. He now wants him back in Serie A.
That is as per Sport Witness. Tottenham’s valuation for Udogie sits at €50 million. Fiorentina’s response to that figure, relayed through Italian media with characteristic directness, is that it is “inarrivabile”, which means something they don’t arrive at. Fairs then. A club of Fiorentina’s financial standing does not casually produce €50 million for a left-back who missed 20 matches this season through a thigh injury. The only realistic pathway, both outlets suggest, is a loan arrangement. Tottenham are unlikely to entertain that.
With Andy Robertson arriving from Liverpool on a free transfer, Spurs are seemingly ready to do business should a suitable offer be made for the 23-year-old, who also has Djed Spence and Souza as left-back options behind Robertson in the pecking order.
What next for Udogie?
That depth creates a plausible structural argument for selling: Robertson provides immediate Premier League quality and leadership at left-back, Souza represents the development option, and Spence provides emergency cover. Udogie, in that context, becomes the asset rather than the necessity.
Yet €50m for a player contracted until 2030 (Transfermarkt) who has managed 45 appearances across the last two league campaigns with only two assists to show for them is ambitious. Even by Tottenham’s standards.
Having said that, even Juventus eye a move for Udogie. They are keen on bringing him back to Italy three years after his move from Udinese, with their pursuit potentially tied to the sale of Andrea Cambiaso for around the exact same Udogie valuation. What makes this particularly interesting is that Spurs are one of Cambiaso’s biggest admirers. This is a space to keep an eye out for.
All depends on how RDZ sees things. If he thinks we have enough depth and balance when it comes to the left side, we might see Udogie bid farewell to Hotspur Way. Unless, of course…
