Real Madrid and midfielder Dani Ceballos have mutually agreed to terminate his contract a year ahead of schedule, according to a report by Spanish outlet AS. By waiving the final year of his deal, Ceballos will forgo his remaining salary to exit the club as a free agent.
In this context, Betis will now negotiate Ceballos’ return to the Andalusian club. They’ve always been interested in a reunion with Ceballos, so him being a free agent will make things significantly easier for both parts.
The Spanish midfielder wasn’t on Jose Mourinho’s plans, so this decision makes sense for the club. Ceballos struggled getting consistent minutes in Madrid and never actually reached the potential he had as a player, even though he made some important contributions during the eight years he spent in the Spanish capital.
