Real Madrid's newest signing Marc Cucurella - also a former Barcelona academy graduate - joined the club earlier this month as one of the most sudden transfer announcements in recent history.
There were seemingly no rumors linking him to Real Madrid last month, bar a couple of reports, and suddenly, Fabrizio Romano dropped the bombshell that Cucurella had joined the biggest club in the world from Chelsea.
It is a transfer that would ultimately help Real Madrid. Even though they had signed a left-back last year in Alvaro Carreras, there was a lot left to be desired in the second half of the season, where the Spaniard just was not able to uphold the level he had shown in the first half of the season.
Jose Mourinho reportedly also wanted a defender who would provide balance to this team, being the more defensive full-back, when compared to who's on the other side in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries.
Marc Cucurella sets historic first goal as a Real Madrid player
Cucurella fits that profile perfectly, and the player also revealed his first goal at the club. It is a very obvious guess if you had to make one.
He said, in a recent press conference: "It's a very important step. Real Madrid are one of the best clubs in the world, the pressure is going to be maximum. When you go to a club like this what you want most is to fight for titles.
"It is the club with the most Champions League titles and hopefully I can win one."
Whoever joins Real Madrid would obviously at least think about one of those. Yes, it will not be the only reason for the player's inclination to join Real Madrid, but it would cross their minds.
At the end of the day, Real Madrid have 15 Champions League titles. You can bring in whatever argument you want to put against that, but that is the ultimate trump card in club football.
The other side of it is, of course, the lack of success in not just that, but any competition in the last two seasons. Real Madrid have struggled, and have not been able to get past the quarter-finals so far. They signed Kylian Mbappe and a few other players since then, all with the motive to lift the Champions League in the following summer.
Cucurella would hope to put an end to that, as fans would obviously want to see more and more trophies come to the Bernabeu as soon as possible.
