Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs battling for Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono.
He is likely to be on the move this summer and Tottenham have an opportunity to secure his services.
The winger arrived at Real Madrid from River Plate in June 2025 and had to settle for a backup role.
He played 1,484 minutes from 34 matches, managing three goals and an assist and this includes one goal in the league.
The 18-year-old needs more game time to continue his development, and that is unlikely to be available at Real Madrid next season.
Tottenham contact Real Madrid
That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Sport, who mentions Spurs in a report focusing on Villarreal.
After a disappointing season, Real Madrid have appointed José Mourinho as their new manager.
According to the claims, the Argentina international is not part of Mourinho’s plans for next season. Therefore, the La Liga side have decided to sanction a loan move this summer.
Los Blancos have leaked their stance and have already received calls from several clubs willing to take Franco Mastantuono on loan. Tottenham Hotspur get a mention.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side, Villarreal, FC Porto, Sporting, Benfica, Inter Milan, Juventus, River Plate and Stade Rennais are his suitors. A return to Argentina is not possible as he wants to continue in Europe.
Villarreal are in the pole position and are willing to meet the conditions set for the loan transfer.
The player’s approval is pending to conclude the operation.
Online, Sport provides more updates on the conditions. Real Madrid are looking for a club that will play in the Champions League and cover half of his salary. He earns €7.3m per year.
Los Blancos also want assurance of regular minutes and won’t include a purchase option with the loan deal.
Tough competition for Tottenham
Franco Mastantuono
Tottenham Hotspur meet most of the conditions to sign Franco Mastantuono, apart from the Champions League.
Spurs have to convince both Real Madrid and the Argentine to pick them. That is the only way the north London club can get ahead of the tough competition.
The South American’s contract lasts until 2031, and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €45m.
