Argentina star Nico Paz still has no clarity on his future beyond the World Cup, with current club Como battling to keep him. Los Blancos have a €9m buyback option on Paz this summer though, and were expected to use it.
Originally, it was reported that Paz would be headed back to the Santiago Bernabéu to play an important role for Real Madrid. Yet the arrival of Jose Mourinho, for whom Paz is not a priority, has put the breaks on that plan. Paz has now informed Real Madrid that he would prefer to stay at Como next season to continue his development if he is not to have an important role, having helped the Serie A side to the Champions League last summer.
Real Madrid and Como to discuss Nico Paz future
It was widely reported that Como and Real Madrid would discuss his future this week, and Matteo Moretto has now specified that this meeting shall take place on Thursday. Los Blancos had informed Como that they intended to bring back Paz in order to take a decision on his future. They are also considering setting a price tag of €60m for Paz and making a sale this summer, but Como will attempt to hold onto Paz for another season.

What should Real Madrid do with Nico Paz?
The equation for Real Madrid seems to revolve around whether they take the money for Paz now, or gamble on the idea that he could return down the line as a better player, or indeed as a more expensive candidate for a sale. This of course comes with an element of risk, but he has been on an upward trajectory under Cesc Fabregas. Already in a similar role, Real Madrid have Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz, with Bernardo Silva also able to operate as an advanced playmaker, reducing the chances that he has of coming back and featuring under Mourinho.
