After the last league match there seemed to be no hope left about the Croatian staying, but now the scenario is changing. Modric wants to continue playing football, and the team he is most likely to do so with is Milan.
This is both out of affection for the red and black shirt and for family reasons: his wife and children are very happy in Milan, and therefore the player’s priority is to continue playing at San Siro for another year under Ruben Amorim.
No to Real Madrid return
Modric therefore seems inclined to delay his appointment as some kind of coach at Real Madrid and to instead continue his career on the pitch for another year, with Milan his main priority in this respect.
His daughter plays for the Rossoneri’s women’s youth team, his wife and son are enjoying their time in Italy, and his desire to continue with the team he’s longed for since childhood is growing.
The disappointment of missing out on a Champions League return is giving way to a desire to carve out a leading role once again, even under Amorim, proving that his relationship with Massimiliano Allegri isn’t an obstacle to his staying.
As always, everything hinges on his decision, but Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be in complete agreement with the idea of him staying. A decision is expected after the World Cup, which Croatia hope to go further in after celebrating Modric’s 200th appearance.
