Tottenham have been very busy in the transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring marquee players to Hotspur Way as Roberto De Zerbi looks to compound the roster at his disposal before heading into the new campaign.
Rebuild underway at Hotspur Way
There was always going to be this squad rebuild coming at Spurs after two consecutive seventeenth place finishes in Premier League. And we have already seen a bit of defensive revamp with Marco Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka coming through the ranks at Tottenham this summer.
Sandro Tonali and Matues Fernandes have been eyed for the second phase already, which leaves the attacking places up for grabs.
While Tottenham have been bringing in some high-profile players along this offseason, the Lilywhites would not be far from it if a highly regarded talent who has a massive ceiling were up for grabs. And that is where the North Londoners’ links with a move for Andreas Schjelderup come into picture.
Tottenham linked with Schjelderup
The Premiership duo of Liverpool and Tottenham are said to be keeping a close eye on Schjelderup, with the Norwegian’s stock continuing to rise sharply over the past six months. Alongside the PL pair, a recent report from TuttomercatoWeb insists that Milan, Como and Atletico Madrid are also possible suitors and are tracking the 22-year-old’s situation closely.
But the latest from Portuguese newspaper Record will give a massive boost to the fans at Merseyside and North London as they add that Schjelderup is drawn to the idea of playing in the Premier League. They go on to describe it as a childhood dream of the 22-year-old left winger.
Club Brugge were closing in on a deal worth around €15 million for him last winter, and West Ham as well as Fulham were also interested in landing his signing.
But then Benfica manager Jose Mourinho blocked it, and his fortunes changed overnight when Schjelderup scored a memorable brace against Real Madrid later that same month. It was a performance that pushed Mourinho to immediately pull him off the market. From there on the 22-year-old went on to establish himself as an integral part of their squad.
Tottenham told how much to pay for Schjelderup
Though he could be on the move this summer, with O Jogo via Sport Witness reporting that Benfica will entertain offers starting at €40 million for the Norway international. And this is a financial flex that Tottenham can make quite comfortably if Roberto De Zerbi is pushing to bring him to Hotspur Way.
