Juventus remain interested in signing Mile Svilar this summer and reportedly attempted to include Teun Koopmeiners in a swap proposal alongside cash in order to secure the Serbian goalkeeper.
Svilar has established himself as one of the leading goalkeepers in Serie A over the past few seasons, and Juventus believe he could significantly strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Bianconeri are understood to rate him more highly than current first-choice goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and were prepared to offer Koopmeiners as part of negotiations with Roma.
Juventus believed the proposal could appeal to Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously enjoyed the best period of Koopmeiners’ career while working with him at Atalanta.
Roma reject Juventus proposal
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma rejected the proposed swap arrangement because the club have no intention of allowing Svilar to leave during the current transfer window.
The report states that negotiations quickly stalled as Roma remained firm in their position and showed no interest in discussing the departure of the goalkeeper.
Svilar is also believed to be content at Roma and is not expected to force a move away from the club despite Juventus’ status as one of the biggest teams in Italian football.
Juventus continue goalkeeper search
Juventus are still expected to sign a new goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window as they continue searching for an upgrade in that position.
However, the club have encountered resistance from several teams regarding their preferred targets, making the process more complicated than initially expected.
The Bianconeri are therefore continuing to assess alternative options while monitoring developments involving the goalkeepers on their shortlist.
Although Svilar remains highly admired within the Juventus hierarchy, Roma’s determination to keep him could ultimately force the Turin club to focus more seriously on other candidates in the coming weeks.
