Juventus missing out on Japan goalkeeper could boost Tottenham’s hopes of selling Guglielmo…

Leeds United could hand Tottenham a surprise boost in offloading Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham Hotspur have already put together a sensational transfer window, breaking the club-record for spending across six signings. As reports emerged on Friday, Sandro Tonali was travelling back to the UK from Italy to complete his medical at Hotspur Way.

Roberto De Zerbi is being hugely backed in the transfer window, but his squad revamp will not be done by signing players alone. The fringe players in the squad are going to have to depart N17, and there are some leading candidates.

One of the main candidates is goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who still has two years remaining on the contract he signed after arriving from Empoli in the summer of 2023. De Zerbi is understood to prefer Antonin Kinsky between the sticks, and following the acquisition of veteran Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley, Guglielmo Vicario’s future at Tottenham is currently in limbo.

Leeds United leading the race for Juventus-linked Parma goalkeeper

The Italian international has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus in recent weeks. He is one of the top names in Juventus’ goalkeeping shortlist, as the Turin giants search for a reliable No.1. Alongside Vicario, they have Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as one of the candidates to replace Michele Di Gregorio next season.

However, according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari on X, Leeds United are leading the race for Zion Suzuki. Juventus are believed to have advanced their interest, but they are aware of the advantage Leeds United hold in the pursuit of the Parma glovesman. Other Premier League clubs remain interested in the Japanese international too.

If Juventus end up missing out on Suzuki to Leeds, which looks likely now, they could very well pivot to Vicario. Spurs are desperate to offload Vicario, given the player prefers to return to Italy, while their €15m asking price for the Italian shot-stopper is ‘highly negotiable’.

Leeds seemingly holding all the cards in Suzuki’s chase and ready to offer £25.8million for him should come as a big boost for Tottenham in offloading Vicario. As Suzuki will be out of reach, Juve may finally make a move for the 29-year-old. The Serie A heavyweights know the value of having an experienced No.1 in their ranks, and Vicario fits that bill.

That said, it remains to be seen whether Luciano Spalletti’s Juve are ready to fork out €15m to sign Vicario. Knowing how they operate, Tottenham could end up lowering their asking price to sell the ex-Empoli man.
