Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Real Sociedad will be postponed

Real Madrid’s home match and La Liga opener against Real Sociedad initially scheduled for August 15th will be postponed due to either Brahim or Mbappé, Tchouameni and Konaté playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Semifinals.

”On the opening day, teams with players who advanced to the semifinals or finals of major competitions—in this instance, the World Cup—would play their matches during the final midweek slot. The remaining teams would compete. Statistically, it appears unlikely that Barcelona and Real Madrid would compete on the weekend of August 16, given player commitments to international duties. Athletic Bilbao, in particular, has numerous players with the Spanish national team, who are anticipated to reach at least the semifinals or final. However, other clubs could commence their seasons, with an estimated six to seven matches scheduled for that weekend,” said La Liga president Javier Tebas when asked about the situation.

It is expected that Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will instead play this game on August 26th.
