Manchester United have confirmed that 15 players have signed their first-year scholarship contracts with the club.
A scholarship contract allows a player under the age of 17 to continue their football development at the club while also pursuing their education.
The occasion was marked by a special ceremony at Old Trafford, with former graduate Wes Brown and academy director Stephen Torpey in attendance.
Kai Rooney, son of former United striker Wayne Rooney, alongside manager Michael Carrick’s son, Jayce Carrick headline the club’s intake of new scholars.
Kai made his debut for the U18s last season in the U18 Premier League victory at Everton, before scoring his first goal in a 5-0 home rout of Middlesbrough.
The 16-year-old forward featured in six league games for Darren Fletcher’s side, scoring twice and providing one assist. He was also a substitute in the FA Youth Cup fourth-round win over Derby County.
Jayce, on the other hand, made just one appearance for United U18s, featuring as a substitute in a 3-0 league victory over Newcastle United.
Jayce and Kai are expected to feature more regularly for Carrick’s side next term. The duo will hope to make an impact for the Red Devils just as their fathers did.
Meanwhile, United’s Professional Development Squad will head to Germany for their pre-season programme.
