Juventus have been attempting to sign Aston Villa‘s Emi Martinez for weeks. They haven’t made much progress, but haven’t given up on the move yet.
Sport Witness have covered how the Argentine has been keen on a move to Turin. There have been claims he’s already looking for a house, with his agents also interested in making a transfer happen.
Aston Villa’s demands have proved to be a problem. They haven’t gone below their valuation of €10m to €15m, with Juve’s initial offer well below their asking price.
No breakthrough has been reached between the two clubs. Juve have now appointed Ricky Massara as their new sporting director and he can play a role in the deal.
New meeting expected
Sky Italia report that the 33-year-old remains Juve’s top target for the keeper spot.
Newly appointed Massara has held a meeting with CEO Giovanni Carnevali about possible transfers this summer. On Wednesday (8th July), they will hold formal discussions with Martinez’s agent, as they look to determine the cost of an investment.
If that goes well, they will then speak to Aston Villa in an attempt to reach a final agreement.
Sky Italia also carry quotes from Carnevali about the Argentine.
The Italian clarified that the deal will be expensive but Juve remain patient.
He said: “He’s playing in the World Cup, we have to wait and understand why we’re interested, but we’re not the only ones.
“There are players whose valuations are too high and these are things we need to monitor carefully.”
This probably mirrors Juve’s own stance, as they don’t seem too panicked about the situation yet.
Player desire important
Emiliano Martínez

The Italian press is convinced Martinez is desperate for a move. But so far, he hasn’t pushed for a transfer and appears happy at Aston Villa. If he stays, he will play in the Champions League and remain first-choice for at least another season.
However, if he pushed for a transfer, the Villans may not reject his request. Juve’s patience suggests they want that and are waiting for the World Cup to end for that step to be taken.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are in no rush to sell him and have no reason to lower their demands.
